Chicago Rockford International Airport Partners with Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Expand Cargo Operations

Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) entered a new partnership with Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK), aimed to boost cargo flights to and from Scotland.

This strategic collaboration focuses on supporting both airports’ growing aerospace and e-commerce industries, offering a significant opportunity to enhance trade between the U.S. and the UK while benefiting both the Rockford and Scotland economies.

With this partnership, both airports are working together to strengthen the existing air cargo trade routes, improving communication and efficiency. The partnership also ensures that cargo operations will run smoothly around the clock, with 24/7 service and no curfews or handling restrictions leading to continuous shipments.

Initially, the focus will be on aerospace cargo, including engines, engine spares, and tooling, supporting high-value manufacturers in both regions. However, the partnership goes beyond just aerospace. The two airports are also aligning on sustainability goals, helping to significantly lower costs and reduce CO2 emissions for shippers.

The RFD-UK air cargo trade line currently handles over 26,000 tons of cargo annually, and with this new agreement, RFD is hoping to significantly grow this number, particularly by expanding routes to the underserved Scottish market. This partnership also opens up opportunities to support a variety of industries, including perishables, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce.

The team at RFD is thrilled about the opportunity to partner with PIK and strengthen its role in facilitating efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective air cargo solutions.
